‘REVIEW’ :Why do Diets Need to be Altered?

For females, ketogenic diets sometimes have to altered due to hormonal fluctuations, water retention and bloating, poor exercise recovery, cravings, cramps, etc. Women also have a harder time digesting some things on these diets compared to men. Due to this, it is best to fine tune your diet to meet your cravings and needs. A too low of a carbohydrate diet can also do more harm than good.

To start, due to hormonal imbalances in some periods of the month, starchy dark vegetables and dense meats are harder to digest. Bloating stomachs cannot handle dense meats well, so it’s best to stick to lighter meats and proteins such as chicken and sea foods. Reduce vegetables if you are having troubles. Drinking more light soups and softer lower carbohydrate foods around these times of the month can help. Reproductive health for females also heavily rely on pH level. To maintain a good balance, eat low carbohydrate yogurts with lactobacillus acidophilus.

In a fat based diet, there are nutrients called omega 3 and omega 6. Omega 3 balances the omega 6, and adding more omega 3 can help balancing out fat in a ketogenic diet. Some omega 3 foods include flax and macadamia nuts. Adding oils that boost your fat burning metabolism can also help with weight retention among females. Coconut oil is a great addition to your diet as it does boost chemical processes in the body due to it being immediately used as energy. MCT performance oil is also great to use as dressing oil on salads and proteins. Lessening lactose intake to 4 servings a day is also helpful.
